Leveling up is the process of gaining in experience points [1] (usually abbreviated to XP) from playing the game. XP is the unit of measure for progression through the game. XP in Football Superstars is awarded for playing in matches. Gain enough XP and you will reach the next level.

In Football Superstars, as in most other RPG's, your character begins at a fairly low level to represent your lack of experience in the game. You will need to play in matches to gain in XP. The amount of XP awarded is dependent upon your performance in the game, so it is a good idea to keep your match playing statistics as high as possible - by training in the gym or learning new skills - in order to remain competitive in a match.

Note that the amount of XP required to level up will also increase as your level increases.

Access to the various types of match are dependent on your level. Initially, you will only be able to play in Amateur matches in order to gain XP. However, once you reach Level 10, Amateur matches will no longer be available and you will have to play in FS Club matches in order to further improve your XP. You will begin your FS Club matches in Division 3. Further promotions will be dependent upon your level.
